Importance of Attic and Crawl Space Insulation

Attic insulation ensures your home stays at a comfortable temperature, keeping you cool in the summer and warm in the winter.

This is especially crucial during winter and summer months when we need to use heaters and air conditioning units to maintain a comfortable living environment. Unfortunately, without proper attic insulation, you may find yourself spending more money to keep your home comfortable enough for you and your family. This is because lack of proper attic and crawl spaces insulation allows heat to migrate from one space to another and therefore increasing your energy consumption and ultimately your electricity bills. Having a proper insulation is important to ensure that your living spaces are not only comfortable but also affordable to heat and cool.

There are various types of attic insulation’s available in the market. The following two are some of the types of attic insulation available.

1. Batt insulation

It is also referred to as rolled insulation or insulation rolls. This type is designed in such a way that it is able to fit in between rafters, joists or studs. Though they can be made from different materials, the most common material available is fiberglass. The procedure involves installing each piece at a time and ensuring that each piece is cut and shaped in a manner that ensures maximum coverage.

2. Blown-In insulation

This type is also known as the loose fill fiberglass insulation. It is installed into the attic using special equipment that blows in the material. It is very efficient because it ensures that every part of the attic is covered including the smallest crevices and cracks. This form of attic insulation is very cost effective.

Reduced energy bills

Insulation works by acting as a barrier for heat transfer in the summer it prevents heat from entering the living space and in the winter it prevents the heat from escaping into the outside.

Proper insulation ensures efficient energy consumption in that you do not need to keep you heater or air conditioning on all day long to keep you home warm or cool enough.
