Insulation Removal Service
Have you noticed strange odors around your home lately? Are your energy bills higher than expected? Maybe you can’t seem to control the temperature as well as you used to.
If any of these things are happening to you, you may be due for an insulation replacement.
Your home’s insulation is one of the most important elements of your home’s construction and energy efficiency. It keeps the elements outside, allowing greater control of your home’s environment. It also affords you privacy, keeping conversations being closed doors from seeping through the walls.
Damaged insulation can also become home to pests and vermin, whose animal droppings can cause health concerns for your family. If so, you’ll need to remove and replace it ASAP to get rid of a possible rodent infestation.
Additionally, moisture in the attic or on the attic floor can also cause mold, mildew, and a slew of housing/health problems if not properly addressed by professionals.
For that, we’re here to help with your attic insulation removal.

Let’s go over how it works.
Insulation Removal Process
Over our years as an insulation contractor, we have learned that no two houses are the same, and we appreciate the uniqueness of your home.
That’s why the first step of any insulation removal project is a detailed inspection and preparation. An expert will travel to your home and analyze your attic space, free of charge. The attic professional will help identify issues like
dirty insulation (moldy insulation or soiled from rodent droppings), wet insulation (contaminated from constant moisture), possible asbestos, or anything that will help determine the overall cost of the project. Depending on the location of the contaminated insulation, it may be necessary to inspect your home’s air ducts to ensure the issues are not spreading to other areas of the home.
Then, all furniture and decorations are moved into safe storage for the duration of the project, and anything that can’t be moved is covered in protective sheeting, along with the floors and walls.
Once that’s done, what happens next depends on the kind of wall insulation you have. Each kind involves its own special tools and procedures to remove properly.
The two main categories are:
Blown-In Insulation – Usually fiberglass, rockwool, and cellulose insulation – This kind of insulation material can be vacuumed out. However, an extremely powerful industrial vacuum is required:
- A 23 horsepower vacuum is stationed outside the structure
- A 6” diameter hose is then extended into the attic space
- All insulation material and any related debris are vacuumed out securely
Batting (roll) Insulation – A common application, pre-cut pieces of rockwool or fiberglass insulation cannot be vacuumed out like the blown-in variety. Instead, each piece needs to be individually removed by hand. The process entails:
- Carefully rolling up each piece
- Bagging and sealing the pieces
- Disposing of the bags
At Attic Construction, our insulation service is prepared to take on any kind of existing insulation you have.
After the removal, our insulation team can also replace your attic with brand-new, state-of-the-art insulation. In addition, we will install protective measures, such as sealed entry points, to prolong the life of your new insulation.

Rodents Carry Harmful Viruses
Many times, when we investigate insulation issues we also stumble upon rodent issues as well. It’s very important to take care of all of your home’s insulation and pest related issues simultaneously to get the maximum benefit of both services. Rodents can be the main cause of many insulation issues; however, pest control may not be sufficient enough to rid your home of rodents. Fortunately, unlike other insulation removal contractors, we can also provide rodent proofing services in conjunction with residential insulation removal services to ensure rats, mice and other pests no longer have a way to enter your home. When you have rats and mice in your attic, you’re storing much more than old Christmas boxes and clothing. As a homeowner, you could be harboring a plethora of harmful diseases and health concerns in your old attic insulation that could impact your indoor air quality. Such as:
- Lymphocytic Chorio-Meningitis
- Murine Typhus
- Omsk Hemorrhagic Fever
- Eosinophillic Menengitis
- Hanta Virus
- Rat Bite Fever
- The Plague
- Unsanitary Conditions
At Attic Construction, we’ll help you get rid of your rodent problem once and for all through a variety of techniques. Our decontamination services will clear the attic or crawl space of any animal feces or other unwanted matter and then redo your attic insulation to protect your space form future pest issues.
